Zhenai.com has its root in 96333.com, a free dating site created in May 1998 and it was acquired by Dr. Song Li, an investment banker-turned serial entrepreneur and his business partner in January 2005. Subsequently he transformed the site into a one with the current service model of integrated Internet and telephone matchmaking. The new site was launched in August 2005 with the new brand name of Zhenai.com, which means in Chinese "cherished love".
In November 2006, Roger Chen, a former executive at Dell China, joined Zhenai.com as a co-founder and general manager.

Dr. Song Li is an investment banker-turned serial Internet entrepreneur.
Song is the founder and chairman of Zhenai.com, the largest online matchmaking site in China with 28 million registered members as of May 2011 (“2010 Best Online Personals Site in China” by China Internet Weekly and “2010 Best Online Personals Site” by China Internet Industry Annual Convention, and “Red Herring Asia Top 100” by Red Herring).
Prior to founding Zhenai.com, Song was chairman and co-founder of MemeStar, once China’s largest mobile SMS-based dating service provider with 2.2 million paying members, which was acquired by the NASDAQ-listed Sina Corporation in January 2003.
Before becoming an Internet entrepreneur, Song was a professional investment banker, working as a Vice President of debt derivative products at Bear Stearns’ New York office and as an Executive Director of equity derivative products at Morgan Stanley’s Hong Kong office.
Song has a Ph.D. in finance from Columbia University in the United States.

Prior to entering into Internet services industry, Roger worked for Dell (China) Inc. in charge of the company’s Western China Region for Corporate Accounts Department. He served as a sales manager, training manager and sales director at a number of Internet services companies in China after 2004.
